Ongoing programs:
Over the past year, Oxfam Canada continued to strengthen its work in support of women's rights and gender equality in a number of countries. It supported initiatives to end violence against women and girls in Afghanistan, Cuba, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines and Pakistan. It implemented an initiative to increase women's political participation in Indonesia, as well as an initiative to promote and improve women and young girls' sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the Philippines. Oxfam Canada also supported food security, livelihoods and disaster risk reduction initiatives in Cuba.

New programs:
Towards the end of the year (March 2019), Oxfam Canada launched four new programs aimed at strengthening women's rights and women's rights organizations: these comprise a new multi-country SRHR program in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia; as well as a new women's voice and leadership program in Pakistan; and two women's economic empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the economic wellbeing and advancing the rights of indigenous women in Guatemala and of domestic workers in Bangladesh. Lastly, during this year, Oxfam Canada provided support to emergency response programs in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cuba, DRC, India, Indonesia, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Venezuela. These initiatives provided water, sanitation, livelihoods and protection support to those affected by crisis and sudden onset natural disasters, particularly women and girls.
