Programs and activities:

Ongoing programs: Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) is a unique Canadian registered charity that has been dedicated to increasing access to medicine and improving health for the most vulnerable people in the world since 1990. Canada's pharmaceutical and healthcare industry works with HPIC to treat about 1 million people every year through HPIC's Canadian volunteer and global humanitarian network. HPIC equips medical mission teams, stocks clinics and hospitals in impoverished communities, mobilizes medical relief during emergencies and builds local capacity. Every $1 donated to HPIC delivers at least $10 of essential medicine. In the 2016 calendar year, HPIC provided treatment to an estimated 1.2 million children and adults in 51 countries. HPIC continued providing services through three key programs: Humanitarian Medical Kits: equip Canadian doctors and other healthcare professionals and volunteers with the medicines and medical supplies they need for health projects in the developing world. Bulk medicines program: HPIC works with partner agencies to stock clinics and hospitals in need of medicines and supplies to treat their patients. In 2016 HPIC delivered 31 20 foot equivalent containers and 13 airlifts. Emergency medical relief: HPIC mobilizes Canada's healthcare industry when disaster strikes communities in the developing world. In 2016 HPIC was involved in 6 major emergencies and provided treatment for an estimated 215,000 people in Ecuador, Haiti, Iraq, Syria, N...

New programs: Pamoja project in Kenya: HPIC developed a brand new project focused on the most vulnerable mothers and babies in partnership with The Anglican Church of Kenya. The first provision of medical relief arrived in the fall of 2016. The project also includes a public education component to promote good health practices. Pharmaceutical management: HPIC completed the development of a new proprietary pharmaceutical management database tool. The software and accompanying training was made in response to needs in the field. It will help smaller resource-constrained hospitals track usage, keep inventory and better manage their medicines, whether they are donated or purchased. A number of program implementing partners are slated to begin using it in 2017. Noteworthy in 2016: HPIC reached the milestone of having provided more than $500 million in medical relief to communities in more than 110 countries.
