Programs and activities:

Ongoing programs: Food Bank On Wheels home delivers food and sundry items to Single parent families who have a disability (Mental or Physical) in their family that prevents them from going to a regular food Bank safely in the Metro Vancouver area. Food bank On Wheels assists people on low income in the Vancouver Downtown East Side. (DTES) by providing volunteers with food and gas expenses to deliver the food and sundry items to those in need. Food Bank On Wheels has 1/5 directors and 3 staff that are paid for their services as independent contractors. Food Bank On Wheels also has 6 volunteers, due to Covid-19 we needed to hire help to make up for the lack of volunteers to help provide the services we do. The duties of all our staff and volunteers include delivery of food hampers, preparing the food hampers, shopping for the food, picking up donated food and sundry items, organizing food in warehouse, client registration, setting up delivery dates, administration work as well as all social media accounts for the Charity. Food Bank on Wheels received a grant from Coquitlam Foundation to enable us to provide Back To School Knapsacks with appropriate age school supplies. Food Bank On Wheels provides a monthly food hamper consisting of perishable & non-perishable foods as well as donated food and sundry items that will help a family for approx 7-10 days worth of food, most foods are purchased to ensure we provide perishable foods not normally donated. This ensures quality and freshness of each food hamper. These food hampers are to eligible clients that are mostly single parents that require our home delivery service due to illness in the family preventing them from visiting a regular food bank. Food Bank on Wheels also provides grocery gift cards to the clients we serve during the Easter & Christmas Holidays and for emergency reasons. Due to Covid-19 we continued our expanded service to help people with disabilities and Seniors that had health issues with a home delivered food hamper because they were home isolating and unable to go to a regular food bank on their own.
