Programs and activities:

Ongoing programs: Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a non-profit international development agency. Incorporated on July 3, 1980, AKFC’s work covers two core lines of activity: programming related to international development, and the acquisition and development of properties used for charitable purposes. Each of these areas are supported by separate funding streams. As part of the organization’s international development mandate, AKFC supports programs in Africa and Asia which tackle interconnected issues in education, health and nutrition, agriculture and food security, early childhood development, work and enterprise, civil society, climate resilience, and gender equality. AKFC also undertakes a range of activities to mobilize Canadians to support this mandate, including fundraising campaigns that benefit from a broad base of volunteer support, placements for Canadians to contribute their professional skills abroad, and a robust agenda to raise awareness and encourage discussion about Canada’s role in an interdependent world among a range of audiences, including youth, educators, development sector professionals, and the general public.

New programs: In 2021, AKFC launched the following new programs: 1) Broadening Economic and Social Transformation for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Recovery (BEST4WEER) : To reduce social, cultural and institutional barriers for women’s engagement in economic and social spheres in order to create an enabling environment in northern Pakistan 2) Educating for the SDGs- Workshops and Resources for Canadian Educators : Enhancing multi-stakeholder efforts by promoting partnerships and bridging efforts across sectors in support of the 2030 Agenda; and raising awareness and support for the 2030 Agenda in Canada
