Ongoing programs: ig Brothers Big Sisters core mentoring programs are customized to the needs of the individuals served, by introducing developmental relationships that intentionally act to mitigate the long-term effects of adverse childhood experiences. The majority of youth served are in Community-based programs - one-to-one relationships between adult mentor and a child, where activities take place in the community. These programs include Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Cross-Gender, 2SLGBTQ+, and Big Couples. Site based one-to-one mentoring between a volunteer mentor and a child is operated in partnership with others such as schools or other community services). These include In-School Mentoring and a virtual career exploration and post-secondary readiness program where High school students are matched with an adult and connect virtually for 14 weeks. . Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax runs a social enterprise named ReNew Crew which accepts donations of textiles and sells them to a for-profit private business. The funds produced from this operation are used to match, screen and train mentors matched with local children as well as provide group programs and opportunities for youth.
