Programs and activities:
Ongoing programs:RESEARCH: The COF continues to be dedicated to funding new research initiatives with a focus on orthopaedic surgical treatment, innovation and quality. EDUCATION & SUPPORT: The COF develops and distributes information to the public about bone and joint health/mobility and, when compromised, about how surgery and medical treatment can be helpful to improving quality of life. Since orthopaedic surgery patients need ongoing support and education to understand their role in their own full recovery, the COF provides educational resources, both in print and online, and a free peer support program by phone and on-line to people undergoing orthopaedic treatment so they can be active participants in their health care. COMMUNITY CARE: The COF helps improve delivery of orthopaedic care in communities, through grants and scholarships to priority initiatives that fit with its overall mission and in helping Canadians. In addition, the COF provides support to patients through its GLA:DTM Canada program, an education and tailored exercise program proven to help individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis to reduce their symptoms and increase their function.
New programs:This year the COF introduced a new research award. The CSES Research Grant was created to support and encourage orthopaedic surgeons to conduct collaborative shoulder or elbow research.
