Programs and activities:

Ongoing programs: Throughout 2022, BurlingtonGreen's mission-driven work prioritized a focus on resuming in-person programming while continuing with online opportunities to ensure inclusive, accessible offerings. We achieved many measurable outcomes of our strategic plan goals pertaining to local action on climate change, the protection of nature and the strengthening of biodiversity . We hosted our popular Green Up event with community members joining us to plant 533 native species trees in Burlington, and our flagship city-wide Community Clean Up event realized more than 10,000 participants contributing to the retrieval of litter from local parks, school yards, neighbourhoods and natural spaces. We resumed our impactful event greening service at 6 festivals/events and successfully diverted 4.7 tonnes of e-waste from the landfill through our Zero Waste drop-off events. We further expanded our online reach to more than 14,000 people, providing solution-focused resources and tips and we collaborated with 41 community organizations on various initiatives throughout the year. Participants from various sectors took part in our in -person and online educational programs pertaining to nature, transportation and zero waste, with more than 200 local youth enjoying engaging sessions featuring 11 guest presentations.

New programs: BurlingtonGreen was pleased to advance a variety of new initiatives during 2022, in addition to achieving a major milestone of securing a new headquarters/eco-education centre for our charity in a profile Burlington location. This new Eco-Hub at the popular beach has already realized many new community engagement and programming opportunities and the asset will be a key driver for our next 5-year strategic plan that will be developed in 2023. Additionally, we introduced sustainable transportation and nature-based programming in 2022. Our new program for aging adults engages isolated community members, supporting their mental and physical well-being through connections with local nature. And with transportation emissions accounting for 40% of GHG's in Burlington, ramping up the adoption of e-mobility is crucial, and thus our leadership in researching and producing Burlington's first E-mobility Strategy is another important milestone achievement for our organization. We also further advanced our ongoing efforts to improve our diversity, equity and inclusivity policies and practices. A new comprehensive survey was developed to determine our reach with Burlington’s diverse population, providing baseline data to develop plans for further effectiveness and growth. Our Board volunteers and staff participated in extensive DEI training and we made technical advancements to our website so it is now available in 4 additional languages.
